Why Upgrade
Why Upgrade the Wheels on Your BYD
BYD builds genuinely good electric cars, then ships most of them on cast wheels because casting is cheap at volume. The chassis deserves better, and a wheel upgrade changes three things at once.
| Gain | What It Does on a BYD |
|---|---|
| Performance | Lighter wheels sharpen turn-in and help the suspension follow the road with less wheel inertia, making a torque-rich EV feel more responsive. |
| Weight | Forged wheels can run 15–25% lighter than cast. On an 18–20-inch BYD fitment, that can mean around 2–4 kg less per corner. |
| Looks | Custom forged wheels transform the stance with your chosen width, offset and finish, without relying on spacers to achieve the desired fitment. |
EV Benefits
Why Forged Wheels Are Ideal for BYD EVs
orged construction matters even more on a BYD EV. Cast wheels are poured into molds, creating a random grain structure and potential internal voids. Forging compresses the aluminium and aligns the grain with the wheel's load paths, delivering greater strength at lower weight. With BYD's heavier EV platforms and instant torque, that combination matters. Forged wheels provide the strength and weight reduction a heavy, high-torque car demands.
| Property | Cast | Forged |
|---|---|---|
| Grain Structure | Random, porous | Continuous, directionally aligned |
| Weight | Heaviest | 15–25% lighter |
| Impact Behaviour | Tends to crack | Tends to bend, usually repairable |
| Fatigue Life | Lowest; porosity can seed cracks | Highest |
| Suits a Heavy EV | Compromise | Correct choice |

EV Performance Benefits
This is where BYD forged wheels earn their price. Let us be precise about what the wheel changes
Battery Efficiency & Range
Lighter forged wheels reduce rotating mass, helping efficiency and regenerative braking. Expect modest range gains rather than dramatic increases.
Range & Aerodynamics
A cleaner, more aerodynamic wheel face reduces airflow drag. Pairing lightweight forged wheels with efficient tyres helps minimise range loss.
Handling & Responsiveness
Lower unsprung mass lets the suspension control the tyre more precisely, improving turn-in, steering response and overall chassis feel.
Torque Handling
BYD's instant EV torque creates sharp loads through the wheel and hub. Forged construction provides greater strength and durability under repeated torque inputs.
Best Wheel Options for BYD
Three real decisions sit between you and the right set of custom BYD wheels.
| Feature | What It Means for BYD |
|---|---|
| Monoblock vs Multi-Piece | One-piece forged wheels are lighter and stronger, making them ideal for heavy EVs where reducing weight can support efficiency and handling. Multi-piece designs allow deeper lips but add weight. |
| Lightweight Design | FEA maps the wheel's load paths so material can be removed where it is not needed, delivering a lighter wheel without sacrificing strength. |
| Custom Finishes | Gloss and satin black BYD rims are popular, with gunmetal, brushed, polished and custom colours also available. Powder coating improves durability through repeated heat cycles. |
BYD Fitment Guide
Here is the fact almost no BYD wheel seller states plainly: BYD does not use one bolt pattern across its range. Get the numbers below right and the wheel sits flush, clears the brakes, and carries the load. Get them wrong and you rub, foul, or overload a wheel that was built for a lighter car.
| Model | PCD | Centre Bore | Lug Thread |
|---|---|---|---|
| BYD Seal | 5x114.3 | 66.5mm | M12 x 1.5 |
| BYD Atto 3 | 5x114.3 | ~64.1mm Confirm per car |
Confirm per car |
| BYD Han | 5x114.3 | Confirm per car | Confirm per car |
| BYD Sealion 7 | 5x120 | 64.1mm | Confirm per car |
Read that carefully. The Seal and Atto 3 run 5x114.3, but the Sealion 7 moves to 5x120, so their wheels are not interchangeable. Centre bore and lug thread also vary across the range, which is why a generic universal-fit wheel is a gamble on a BYD. We machine the wheel hub-centric to your exact confirmed bore so it locates on the hub, not the bolts. No rings, no rattle.
Wheel sizes, 18 to 21 inch and up
| Size | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 18" | Max Range Daily | Lightest option with a taller sidewall for better efficiency, comfort and kerb protection. |
| 19" | The All-Rounder | Strong brake clearance, good range and an excellent ride balance. A popular choice for the BYD Seal. |
| 20" | Stance Builds | Fills the arches and sharpens steering response while remaining range-friendly when paired with lightweight forged construction. |
| 21"+ | Sealion 7 & Larger EVs | Creates a strong show stance, but forged construction is especially valuable as cast wheels become significantly heavier at this size. |
Tyre Compatibility
BYD Seal typically uses around ET37–40. A 19x8J ET38 setup is a clean street reference. Custom offsets are machined to ±0.5mm for a flush fit without spacers.
Offset Ranges
Match tyre width to rim width and choose efficient tyres for EV range. Common BYD setups use 235–255-section tyres while maintaining factory rolling diameter.
EV Load Rating
BYD EVs are heavy, making load rating critical. Every forged wheel should be rated for the vehicle's actual corner weight with an appropriate safety margin.
Popular BYD Models for Forged Wheels
Every RRT wheel is made to order, so we build for every BYD.
| Model | Key Fitment & Forged Wheel Notes |
|---|---|
| BYD Seal | Popular performance fitment with 5x114.3 PCD, 66.5mm bore and ET37–40. Lightweight forged 19 or 20-inch wheels improve response while maintaining ride comfort. |
| BYD Atto 3 | Uses 5x114.3, with the centre bore confirmed per vehicle. An 18 or 19-inch forged setup retains useful sidewall while reducing unsprung weight. Correct load rating is essential. |
| BYD Han | A larger, heavier sedan that benefits strongly from weight reduction. Uses 5x114.3, with bore and hardware confirmed for the specific car before machining. |
Not listed? We also build for the Sealion 7, Dolphin, and other BYD EVs. The Sealion 7 in particular runs a different 5x120 pattern, so send your exact model and we confirm the fitment window.
BYD Forged Wheel Pricing
Custom forged BYD wheels run USD $3,000 to $10,000+ per set, and the spread is not arbitrary.
| Cost Driver | What It Changes |
|---|---|
| Customization | Width, offset, aero profile and finish affect the price. Black and gunmetal are the base options, while polished and brushed finishes add cost. |
| Materials | 6061-T6 billet is the foundation and contributes to the higher cost compared with cast or flow-formed wheels. |
| Engineering | Vehicle-specific load ratings, brake modelling and FEA add engineering time. Heavy EV applications require thorough validation. |
| Size & Construction | Larger diameters and multi-piece builds require more material and machining time, increasing the overall cost. |
If a forged BYD wheel is priced like a cast one, it is not forged. Honest flow-formed wheels are decent value for mild use, but the cast centre stays the weak point, and they are heavier, which on an EV is range you paid for and gave back. Our Singapore rim pricing guide breaks down what each method costs to make.
Our Process
THE ENGINEERING BEHIND RRT FORGED
Every wheel goes through a precision-engineered process from billet to finished product.
10,000 Ton Forging
Each wheel begins as a solid 6061-T6 aluminum billet, pressed under 10,000 tons of force. This aligns the grain structure to follow the wheel's load paths, creating maximum strength at minimum weight.
5-Axis CNC Precision
Every wheel is machined on 5-axis CNC to tolerances of ±0.5mm. The hub bore is cut to your exact vehicle specification for a hub-centric fit with no spacers or adapters.
Finite Element Analysis
Before any wheel reaches production, it undergoes FEA simulation to map stress concentrations and optimize spoke geometry. Material is removed where load doesn't travel, making the wheel lighter and stronger.
Inspection & Testing
Every wheel passes through dimensional inspection, surface quality checks, and load testing before dispatch. We maintain full traceability from billet to finished product.
6061-T6 Aircraft Grade
We use only 6061-T6 aluminum — the same alloy used in aircraft construction. No porosity, high fatigue resistance, and predictable strength under repeated load cycles.

BYD Forged Wheels FAQ
Are forged wheels worth it for BYD EVs?
Yes, more so than for a light petrol car. BYD EVs are heavy and torquey, which values low unsprung mass and high wheel strength. Forged is the lightest, strongest way to build a wheel, so it improves range, handling, and durability at once, and it handles instant EV torque better than cast.
Do wheels affect EV range?
Yes, in two ways. A lighter wheel returns a low single-digit percentage of range through reduced rotating mass, and an aero-conscious design protects range at highway speed. Pair a light forged wheel with an efficient tyre and the loss from a larger wheel can be close to nothing.
What size wheels fit BYD models?
It depends on the model, because BYD is not consistent. The Seal and Atto 3 use a 5x114.3 pattern, while the Sealion 7 uses 5x120. Centre bore and lug thread also vary, so always confirm your exact model and year before buying. Sizes commonly run 18 to 21 inch.
How long does custom production take?
Made-to-order forging and machining takes several weeks depending on specification and finish. We confirm the current lead time when you place your order.
Do I need spacers or adapters?
No. We machine your correct offset into the wheel and cut the bore to your confirmed hub. If a wheel needs a spacer or adapter to fit, it was built for a different car.
