Why Upgrade
Why Upgrade from OEM Lexus Wheels
Factory Lexus alloys are cast. Lexus builds them that way because casting is predictable at volume and durable enough for a car that has to be quiet, comfortable, and warrantable in every market. That is the right call for Lexus. It leaves two things on the table.
| Factor | What It Changes |
|---|---|
| Weight | Cast construction needs thicker sections to reach its strength targets, adding unsprung and rotating mass. Reducing that weight improves ride quality and response by giving the damper less inertia to control. |
| Fixed Geometry | Lexus uses one width and offset per wheel package. The IS, for example, can run a conservative 18x8 +45 fitment. If ride height or tyre width changes, the factory specification may no longer be optimal. |
The aesthetic case is straightforward, and it is why most people arrive here. Factory lexus alloy wheels are designed to be inoffensive across a global market. A properly specified set changes the car's stance more than any other modification at this budget.
Forged
Why Forged Wheels Are Ideal for Lexus
Forging compresses a solid billet under enormous pressure, keeping the aluminium grain tight and continuous. Serious forged blanks start near 120 lb and get machined down under presses rated around 10,000 metric tons, removing everything the load path does not require.
Cast vs Forged
| Comparison | OEM Cast | Flow-Formed | Forged |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grain Structure | Porous, loose | Denser barrel | Tight, continuous |
| Strength-to-Weight | Baseline | Better | Best |
| Failure Mode | Can crack | Mixed | Tends to bend |
| Load Rating per kg | Lowest | Mid | Highest |
| Custom Width & Offset | No | Limited | Fully custom |
| Price | Lowest | Mid | Premium |
Forged gives you performance without sacrificing ride quality. The weight saving comes from the construction method, not from reducing tyre sidewall. An 18-inch forged wheel with the factory 245/40 tyre keeps the same sidewall and compliance over expansion joints, while giving the suspension less mass to control. The result is a sharper, more settled drive rather than a harsher one.
Styles
Best Wheel Styles for Lexus
Three directions work on every Lexus model. The right one depends on whether you want stealth, elegance, or presence.
Black Lexus Rims
Black remains the most requested Lexus finish, complementing the brand’s dark trim and sharp body lines. Against Eminent White, Atomic Silver or Ultrasonic Blue, a dark wheel looks refined rather than loud. The finish matters most for long-term appearance: quality powder coat or a forged finish lasts, while cheap paint can chalk and lift. Satin hides brake dust best; gloss delivers the strongest visual impact.
Multi-Spoke
The most Lexus-appropriate direction. Ten and twelve-spoke designs read as refined rather than aggressive, echo the F Sport factory language, and distribute load evenly. They suit the ES and RX particularly well, where an aggressive five-spoke can look mismatched against a comfort-biased car.
Concave
Works best on the IS and RC, where the rear-drive proportions and wider rear arch give a concave face something to fill. On a front-drive ES it tends to look forced.
Fitment
Lexus Fitment Guide
The good news is consistency. Every Lexus IS from 1999 to the current IS 500, plus ES, NX, and RX, uses 5x114.3 with a 60.1mm centre bore and M12x1.5 lug nuts torqued to around 76 lb-ft. Wheels are broadly cross-compatible within that family. The body-on-frame trucks (GX, LX) are a separate family entirely at 6x139.7.
| Fitment Trap | What You Need to Know |
|---|---|
| Staggered Setups | ES, NX and RX are front-drive based and typically run square. The IS 350 and IS 500 F Sport are the main Lexus models with factory staggered setups. IS specifications should not be copied onto an ES, as offset ranges and load requirements differ. |
| 60.1mm Centre Bore | Lexus uses a 60.1mm bore. Many aftermarket 5x114.3 wheels use larger 67.1mm or 73.1mm bores, which can require hub-centric rings. Custom forged wheels can be machined directly to 60.1mm for proper hub-centric fitment. |
| Hybrid AWD Rolling Diameter | On IS 300 AWD, NX 450h+ and RX 450h+, keep front and rear rolling diameters within roughly 1%. Staggered widths can work, but tyre diameters must remain closely matched to avoid AWD faults and accelerated drivetrain wear. |
| Model | Drive | Bolt Pattern | Bore | OEM Reference | Setup |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| IS 300 / IS 350 | RWD / AWD | 5x114.3 | 60.1mm | 18x8 +45 | Square or staggered |
| IS 350 / IS 500 F Sport | RWD | 5x114.3 | 60.1mm | 245/40R18 F, 275/35R18 R | Factory staggered |
| ES 350 / ES 300h | FWD | 5x114.3 | 60.1mm | 235/45R18 typical | Square only |
| RX 350 | FWD / AWD | 5x114.3 | 60.1mm | 235/55R19 typical | Square only |
| NX | FWD / AWD | 5x114.3 | 60.1mm | 235/55R18 typical | Square only |
| GX / LX | 4WD | 6x139.7 | Confirm | Varies | Square |
Sizes
Setups by intent across the 17" to 21" range
| Goal | Setup | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| IS, Ride Quality Priority | 18x8.5 +35 to +40 | Keeps factory sidewall and reduces weight. |
| IS, Tighter Stance — No Fender Work | 18x8 +35 F, 18x8.5 +35 R | Pulls the face out approximately 10mm vs OEM +45. |
| IS, Aggressive Street | 19x8.5 +35 F, 19x9.5 +20 R | Expect lowering and possible fender work. |
| ES / RX OEM+ | Square, within 5mm of factory offset | Front-drive geometry is less tolerant of aggressive fitment. |
| Winter or Comfort Set | 17x7.5, higher-profile tyre | Ideal as a dedicated second set. |
Two practical notes. The IS platform is narrower than a BMW 3 Series, so offset selection matters more than the numbers suggest, and front offsets much below +22 mean fender work. And on the ES specifically, later XV70 cars tightened clearance, so an older ES offset spec may rub at full lock on a newer car even though the bolt pattern is identical.
Setups
Popular Lexus Models
| Model | Why Forged? |
|---|---|
| Lexus IS | The strongest candidate in the range. Its rear-drive chassis responds well to wheel changes, while the factory 18x8 +45 fitment leaves room for a more precise setup. Choose square for balance and tyre rotation, or staggered for a more aggressive F Sport look. |
| Lexus ES | Front-drive and comfort-focused, so the priority is refinement and appearance rather than lap time. Keep the setup square and close to factory offset, using the weight saving to improve ride quality. |
| Lexus RX | Its larger size and weight make load rating especially important. Confirm the wheel rating exceeds your GVWR divided by four. On the RX 450h+, also keep front and rear rolling diameters within roughly 1%. |

Pricing Guide
Custom forged sets for a Lexus generally run $3,000 to $10,000+. What moves the number
| Cost Driver | Effect |
|---|---|
| Diameter and Width | A 20x10.5 needs far more billet and machining than an 18x8.5. |
| Construction | Monoblock versus multi-piece changes material and assembly cost. |
| Staggered Specification | Front and rear specifications are engineered independently, adding cost compared with a square set. |
| Finish | Standard powder coat is the base; custom colour, brushed and two-tone finishes add cost. |
| Load Rating Target | RX and larger SUVs need higher targets, requiring more material and validation. |
| Bespoke Offset and Brake Clearance | Engineering time for vehicle-specific fitment rather than a catalogue specification. |
Being straight about it: for a standard ES or RX that is driven gently, quality cast wheels are a reasonable purchase and the money goes further elsewhere. Forged earns its cost where you want the weight saving without giving up ride quality, where you need an offset the catalogue does not offer, or where the correct 60.1mm bore matters to you more than a hub ring does.
Our Process
THE ENGINEERING BEHIND RRT FORGED
Every wheel goes through a precision-engineered process from billet to finished product.
10,000 Ton Forging
Each wheel begins as a solid 6061-T6 aluminum billet, pressed under 10,000 tons of force. This aligns the grain structure to follow the wheel's load paths, creating maximum strength at minimum weight.
5-Axis CNC Precision
Every wheel is machined on 5-axis CNC to tolerances of ±0.5mm. The hub bore is cut to your exact 60.1mm Lexus specification for a hub-centric fit with no spacers or adapters.
Finite Element Analysis
Before any wheel reaches production, it undergoes FEA simulation to map stress concentrations and optimize spoke geometry. Material is removed where load doesn't travel, making the wheel lighter and stronger.
Inspection & Testing
Every wheel passes through dimensional inspection, surface quality checks, and load testing before dispatch. We maintain full traceability from billet to finished product.
6061-T6 Aircraft Grade
We use only 6061-T6 aluminum — the same alloy used in aircraft construction. No porosity, high fatigue resistance, and predictable strength under repeated load cycles.

FAQ's
Are forged wheels worth it for a Lexus?
Yes, if you value ride quality as much as appearance. Most wheel upgrades force a compromise: bigger diameter looks better but cuts sidewall and degrades refinement. Forged construction lets you keep the factory diameter and tyre while removing significant weight, so the suspension controls the wheel better and the car feels more composed rather than harsher. On the IS specifically, the handling gain is noticeable. On an ES or RX driven gently, treat it as a refinement and appearance upgrade rather than a performance fix.
What size wheels fit a Lexus IS?
Every IS generation uses 5x114.3 with a 60.1mm bore and M12x1.5 lug nuts. Factory sizing on the current car is 18x8 +45, which sits fairly tucked. Common upgrades run 18 to 19 inches, 8 to 9.5 inches wide, with offsets between about +20 and +45. A clean no-modification setup is 18x8 +35 front and 18x8.5 +35 rear. Going below roughly +22 up front usually means fender work, and the IS is narrower than a 3 Series so offset matters more than the numbers suggest.
Are forged wheels better than alloy wheels?
Forged wheels are alloy wheels. The difference is manufacturing method. Most factory Lexus alloys are cast, while forged wheels are pressed from solid billet, giving a tighter grain structure, higher strength-to-weight, and better resistance to cracking. Cast wins on price. Forged wins on weight, strength, and custom fitment.
Can I fit IS wheels on my ES?
Mechanically often yes, since both use 5x114.3 and a 60.1mm bore. But the IS is rear-drive and the ES is front-drive, so the offset windows and load requirements differ, and IS F Sport wheels are staggered while the ES must run square. Check the specific offset against your car rather than assuming the shared bolt pattern is enough.
Build your set
The best wheel upgrade on a Lexus is the one that makes the car look considered without making it ride worse. That means taking weight out through construction rather than through sidewall, and specifying the width, offset, and bore around your actual car. Send RRT your model, year, drivetrain, and brake setup, and fitment gets confirmed before anything is machined.
