Why Upgrade

Why Forged Wheels Are Ideal for Mercedes

A Mercedes has a specific problem most wheels ignore. AMG cars are fast and heavy, luxury cars ride on large, weighty rims, and the G-Class weighs close to three tonnes. Cast wheels make every one of those numbers worse. Forged fixes all three at once. The physics is simple. Wheels are unsprung mass, so every gram is inertia the damper fights before the tyre can follow the road. Wheels are also rotating mass, and weight at the barrel resists speed change far harder than static weight. Strip 2 to 5 kg per corner and the car behaves as if it lost meaningfully more.

Gain What It Does on a Mercedes
Weight Forged wheels can run 15–25% lighter than cast. On a 20 or 21-inch AMG fitment, that can mean 2–4 kg less per corner, with even greater savings on heavier G-Class applications.
Handling Less unsprung mass sharpens turn-in and reduces body float. The difference is especially noticeable on performance models like the C63 and E63.
Braking and Acceleration Lower rotating inertia improves throttle response and braking performance without changing engine power.
Ride and Refinement Less wheel mass means less impact transferred through the suspension, creating a quieter and calmer ride while retaining performance.
Durability Forged aluminium's aligned grain structure improves resistance to cracking from kerbs and pothole impacts compared with cast wheels.
Strength vs Cast Cast aluminium can contain porosity that creates potential crack initiation points, while forged aluminium has a tighter, continuous grain structure.

That last row is the core of it. Standard cast Mercedes alloy wheels start as molten metal poured into a mold, so the grain is random and the structure holds tiny voids. A forged billet has none of that. Under press force the grain flows into the shape of the wheel, so strength follows the load paths. That is why a forged rim survives what cracks a cast one, and why forged is the correct material for a car that is both fast and heavy.

Best Wheel Options for Mercedes

Three real decisions sit between you and the right set of custom Mercedes wheels

Monoblock vs Multi-Piece

Monoblock forged wheels are lighter, stronger and ideal for AMG performance and G-Class applications. Multi-piece wheels allow extreme widths and deep lips but add weight. For most Mercedes builds, one-piece forged is the better choice.

Finish

Black Mercedes rims remain the most popular choice. Gloss, satin and matte black suit AMG models, while brushed, polished and gunmetal finishes offer a more distinctive look. Every finish is built for long-term durability and heat cycles.

Design Style

Concave Mercedes wheels create the modern AMG look, with depth determined by width and offset. Wider rear fitments can achieve deeper concavity, while front designs balance brake clearance and suspension travel.

Fitment

Mercedes Fitment Guide

This is where most aftermarket purchases for a Mercedes go wrong. Get these numbers right and the wheel sits flush and clears everything. Get them wrong and you rub, foul, or reach for spacers. Bolt pattern. Almost every modern Mercedes is 5x112 PCD with an M14 x 1.5 thread. C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLS, SL, AMG GT, GLC, GLE and GLS all share it. That consistency is why so many wheels claim to fit. Bolt pattern alone does not make a wheel fit correctly.

The G-Class is the exception, and it is a big one.

Platform PCD Centre Bore
C-Class, C63 AMG 5x112 66.6mm
E-Class, E63 AMG 5x112 66.6mm
S-Class, CLS, SL, AMG GT 5x112 66.6mm
GLC, GLE, GLS SUVs 5x112 66.6mm
G-Class (W463, W463A, W465) 5x130 84.1mm

Read that last row twice. The G-Wagon does not share wheels with any other Mercedes. It runs a 5x130 pattern on an 84.1mm hub, a heavy-duty spec closer to Porsche and industrial vehicles than to a C-Class. A 5x112 wheel will not bolt to a G, and forcing it with adapters on a three-tonne SUV is a safety problem, not a styling one. Every other Merc runs the 66.6mm car hub. We machine the wheel hub-centric to your exact bore either way, so it locates on the hub and not the bolts. No rings, no rattle.

Sizes

Wheel sizes, 18 to 22 inch, and up to 24 on the G.

Size Best For Notes
18" Track C-Class, A45, Base Sedans Lightest with the tallest sidewall and best kerb protection. May not clear larger AMG brake packages.
19" C63, S-Line Dailies, SLC Clears most brake packages and offers an excellent balance of ride and handling.
20" C63, E63, S-Class, AMG GT The AMG sweet spot. Fills the arch while maintaining sharp steering response.
21" E63, S-Class, GLE, GLS A strong proportion for larger Mercedes sedans and SUVs.
22" S-Class, GLE, GLS, G-Class Show-stance size that fills the arch. Cast wheels gain weight quickly, making forged construction particularly valuable.
23–24" G-Class Only Fills the G-Class's boxy arches. Load rating becomes critical at this size and vehicle weight.

Offset & Fitment

Mercedes wheel offset (ET) determines how far the wheel sits inside or outside the arch. AMG sedans typically use ET35–50, while newer G-Class models can run much lower offsets for a wider, flush stance. We machine to ±0.5mm for precise fitment without spacers.

Tyre Compatibility

Match tyre width to the wheel and keep rolling diameter close to factory. Common AMG setups include 245/35R19 fronts, 265–275/30R19 rears, and up to 295–305-section tyres on the G-Class.

Models

Popular Mercedes Models for Forged Wheels

Every RRT wheel is made to order, so we build for every Mercedes chassis. These four come up most.

Model Why Forged?
C-Class & C63 AMG A popular Mercedes fitment focused on reducing front-axle weight and achieving a flush staggered stance. 19 or 20-inch forged wheels can clear AMG brakes while weighing less than factory cast options.
E-Class & E63 AMG A heavy, powerful sedan that benefits from reduced unsprung weight. 20 or 21-inch forged wheels sharpen response while maintaining the refined E-Class ride.
S-Class Weight reduction here is about refinement. Lighter 20 or 21-inch forged wheels improve steering response and help the suspension manage the road more effectively. Brushed and polished finishes suit the flagship character.
G-Class A unique application using 5x130 with an 84.1mm bore and demanding load requirements. 22, 23 or 24-inch forged wheels deliver the aggressive stance while maintaining the strength required for the vehicle's weight.

Not listed here? We build for CLS, SL, AMG GT, GLC, GLE and GLS on the same platform. Send your model and we confirm the fitment window.

Mercedes Forged Wheel Pricing

Custom forged Mercedes wheels run USD $3,000 to $10,000+ per set, and the spread is not arbitrary. Here is where the money goes.

Cost Driver What It Changes
Customization Width, offset, concavity and finish affect the price. Black and gunmetal are the base options, while polished, brushed and split finishes add cost.
Materials 6061-T6 billet is the foundation of the build and contributes to the higher cost compared with cast or flow-formed wheels.
Engineering Vehicle-specific load ratings, brake modelling and FEA add engineering time. A three-tonne G-Class on 24s requires significantly more validation than a standard C-Class.
Size and Construction Larger diameters and multi-piece designs require more material and machining time, increasing the overall build cost.

A set that looks identical to a cheaper one can cost more because the engineering underneath is different. If a forged Mercedes wheel is priced like a cast one, it is not forged. Honest flow-formed wheels are good value for mild use, but the cast centre stays the weak point. Our Singapore rim pricing guide breaks down what each method costs to make.

Our Process

THE ENGINEERING BEHIND RRT FORGED

Every wheel goes through a precision-engineered process from billet to finished product.

settings

10,000 Ton Forging

Each wheel begins as a solid 6061-T6 aluminum billet, pressed under 10,000 tons of force. This aligns the grain structure to follow the wheel's load paths, creating maximum strength at minimum weight.

settings

5-Axis CNC Precision

Every wheel is machined on 5-axis CNC to tolerances of ±0.5mm. The hub bore is cut to your exact vehicle specification for a hub-centric fit with no spacers or adapters.

settings

Finite Element Analysis

Before any wheel reaches production, it undergoes FEA simulation to map stress concentrations and optimize spoke geometry. Material is removed where load doesn't travel, making the wheel lighter and stronger.

settings

Inspection & Testing

Every wheel passes through dimensional inspection, surface quality checks, and load testing before dispatch. We maintain full traceability from billet to finished product.

settings

6061-T6 Aircraft Grade

We use only 6061-T6 aluminum — the same alloy used in aircraft construction. No porosity, high fatigue resistance, and predictable strength under repeated load cycles.

Mercedes Forged Wheels FAQ

Are forged wheels worth it for Mercedes? expand_more

Yes, if you value handling, refinement, or durability, or plan to keep the car past two years. The weight and strength gains are real physics, and a forged set typically outlasts two sets of cast wheels under hard use. On a heavy AMG or G-Class the case is even stronger.

What size wheels fit a Mercedes? expand_more

Almost every modern Mercedes uses a 5x112 bolt pattern with a 66.6mm centre bore, in sizes from 18 to 22 inch. The G-Class is the exception at 5x130 and 84.1mm, running up to 24 inch. Confirm both pattern and bore before buying, because a G will not take a standard car wheel.

Are forged wheels better than alloy wheels? expand_more

Forged wheels are alloy wheels, just made by a stronger process. Standard cast alloys are poured into a mold and hold porosity. Forged alloys are pressed from a solid billet, so they are lighter, stronger, and more fatigue-resistant. The difference shows up under kerb strikes and hard driving.

How long does custom production take? expand_more

Made-to-order forging and machining takes several weeks depending on specification and finish. We confirm the current lead time when you place your order.

Do you make black Mercedes rims? expand_more

Yes. Gloss, matte and satin black are our most requested Mercedes finishes, all powder coated for durability. We also machine polished, brushed, gunmetal and full custom colour.

Do I need spacers for aftermarket Mercedes wheels? expand_more

No. We machine your correct offset into the wheel and cut the bore to your hub. If a wheel needs a spacer to fit, it was built for a different car.
